Ever wondered why IIM’s rank the top most business schools in the country? Why 100% of MBA aspirants just pray to get admission in these elite educational institutions? The answer lies in their efficient placement, superlative pedagogical experiences, qualitative faculty, infrastructure and industry interface.
A survey was conducted on the alumni of top successful business schools and they ranked their alma maters in 3 categories i.e. very good, good and average. This ranking was mainly done on the basis of various parameters like: leadership skills, mentorship programmes, entrepreneurship development, industry interface, holistic development, pedagogy, qualitative faculty, practical exposure and need based curriculum, good infrastructure and placements.
The alumni ranked their alma maters on the above mentioned parameter and apart from this the ranking was also based on how the careers of alumni have shaped up after getting education from such elite business schools. The alumni felt that the B Schools which got the topmost ranking i.e. ‘Very Good’ not only helped the alumni to become employable candidates but with the extensive work on entrepreneurship skills imbibed in them during their course of study, also enabled them to generate employment. On the other hand the B Schools that were ranked as ‘Average’ taught their alumni complexities of business, marketing, finance, operations and so on, that provided them with the training as to how they are to deal with the uncertainties of business that sprang not only from the corporate environment but also from the changes occurring in cultural, global, societal, environmental and technological aspects.
The alumni of top business schools (both very good and good rankers) also emphasised that during their course of study they did not only learn to ‘manage business’, but also how to ‘run effective business.’ They got the knowledge as to how they can run good business that is socially and environmentally sustainable and responsible.
The quality that every educational institution whether an average B school or any other institute, can learn from top business schools is that they provide their students with attractive placements in top companies. Apart from taking care of the placements they also promote entrepreneurship programmes and their exposure is not limited just to the corporate environment. With the changing scenario these B schools encourage career opportunities in non-profit organizations, start-ups that are all aimed to bring about a social and cultural change for a better society fit for future generations.
It is rightly said that change is the need of the hour. With things changing constantly it is required of educational institutions to gear themselves up and stand in the line of being the best. B Schools are already becoming better from good and now it is the turn of every other educational institution.

Your article was an eye opener. I myself did MBA from a reputed institute and always regretted had I get more percentile I would have gotten into IIM. Thanks for breaking the myth.
Wow…. It is so informational. The best thing about the article is that you gave the good aspect about what the average b schools are doing. It’s highly motivating.
