IISc (Indian Institute of Science) has followed suit after IIM to make their presence felt among the top ranked institutes of the world. Shattering the jinx of Indian institutes, IISc, Bangalore made a debut among the world’s top notch 100 engineering and technology universities and secured the 99th spot.
IISc, Bangalore shares this meritorious glory of being acknowledged as a top ranker with prestigious US Institutions like CalTech, Stanford and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Although the top 10 ranks are bagged by US Institutions, yet the remarkable trend is that Asian Universities are also making their presence felt on the global platform. Asian Universities have bagged 25 positions in the Ranking as compared to 18 from the previous year. This year six Asian Universities have managed to bag position in the Top 30 slot. These universities are: the National University of Singapore, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University, Peking and Tsinghua Universities from China and Korea’s Seoul National University. The ranking shows that Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan and India have improved their ranking stature as compared to the earlier year.
The improved ranking of Asian Universities on the global front makes it clear that there is a shift in Asian Education in the terms of balance of power. Better ranking has also increased pressure on North American and European Universities, as the universities had to undergo evaluation on global benchmarks with parameters like teaching, research, transfer of knowledge, international outlook and the like. The presence of an Indian University on the global front makes it evident that the Indian education system is changing for the best and that time is not far when Indian institutions would hold meritorious positions in the ranking system and would be the preferred choice of millions.
