Panchayat Elections Beget Professional Contestants

panchayat polls - Newsx_comIt seems to be the beginning of a sweeping change that may usher in a revolution of sorts. In the recently held elections (2015) to panchayats of the state of Uttar Pradesh, it came as a pleasant surprise to see many professionals in the fray, with an eye to be the ‘pradhan’ or ‘sadasya’ in the their respective panchayats.

Not only have they quit their plush jobs and the accompanying comforts, but also have a mission at heart. They wish to bring about the requisite changes in their native place and to give back to their roots.

Going beyond the casual unproductive use of time and energy, these men and women of action have set an example as to what can and what should be done with the degrees earned and knowledge gained. Manoj Pal (an IIT engineer), Rangati Verma (an architect engineer), Sana Siddiqui (LLB, MBA), Pradeep Kumar (Associate Professor)-to name a few, are the new hope for India.
They have taken the road less travelled with the proverbial ‘miles to go’; and they may just be a drop in the political ocean of 8,84,410 representatives who have been voted for by 11 crore voters.

Their small but well meaning step to uplift their rural birthplace by becoming a part of ‘goan ki sarkar’ will serve as a beacon light for millions of youth.
