Registering FIRs, Soon to Be Online in Maharashtra

maharashtra to go online_dnaindia_com

Come this new year, the people of Maharashtra will have an added reason to celebrate.

Taking a step further on e-governance, the Maharashtra government has announced to enable all police stations to register the First Information Reports (FIRs) online. The complainant will get the copy of the complaint on Whatsapp, along with an SMS confirming the filing.

The Second Administrative Commission Report had recommended the move to make the policing more efficient by bringing the complaint mechanism close to the citizens. The facility is already available to police stations in the country, but due to limited technical know-how it has remained largely defunct. To counter this, the Maharashtra government will provide its personnel, the requisite technical training.

With this initiative, the state will become the first in the country to provide for this commendable service, ensuring an improvement in law and order.
