Dr Mahek Singh elaborated, “Information which is available in a language that a common person understands and comprehends easily, and which empowers him/her to make informed choices (is public utility).” Knowledge about public utility should be disseminated in the early stages of personality development as stated by Dr Shilpa Suri, “Sensitization is required at a young age, exposure to men in uniform is needed to prevent crime and create a sense of security in society.”Mr Gautam agreed that the children and the public at large should reach out to the police without fear. Encouraging the cause he suggested, “We commence the change by knowing our beat constable first.”
The highlight of the session was unveiling of a pocket book namely My Police Book for school going children. Taking the cause further, the author Mr. Jainendra Baxi said, “Only reforms have the strength to make the world a beautiful place.” He revealed his plans of reaching out to as many school children as possible and instilling a sense of optimum fear to deter crime, and easy and fearless approach to report crime when it concerns policing.
The book is an introduction to the first volume of the series written on the subject. This volume details the meaning and functioning of the police.
