The Rajasthan state government has launched an initiative called “School on Wheels” in Jaipur with the intent to educate tribal and nomadic children. For the purpose, a van consisting of a library unit has been set up by an NGO ‘Taabar Society’. The not-for-profit NGO is running a school and has been actively working to provide formal and informal education to children. The children at their school are taught how to read and write, and are prepared for enrollment into regular schools with the aim of better integration in society.
The NGO secretary Mr Ramesh Paliwal said that the van will move around Jaipur district to raise awareness among the nomadic children, especially from ‘Gardiya Lohar’ and ‘Ghumantu’ community (nomads) by exhibiting short audio/videos of inspiring stories.
“Each One Teach One” is a motivational proverb for the educated class to understand their moral and social responsibility of teaching at least one illiterate person in the society. Such initiatives help in raising awareness among secluded communities and minorities. School on Wheels is a small step towards the realisation of this responsibility, which makes it good news for everyone in this country and not just the tribes or nomads.
