Science and technology has played a considerable role in the development of every sector. The science and technology led development in agriculture has resulted in many fold enhancement in the productivity and production of different crops and commodities. With the enhancement in the production the government has been is trying to matchup to the pace of growth in food demand. The good news is that India now stands first in the global milk production scenario. In 2013-2014, the milk production was 137.68 million tonne, which has increased to 146.31 million tonne in 2014-2015. In India, for the first time, there has been a record growth of 6.3%whereas there is an increment of only 2.2 percent in international scenario.
Union agriculture minister said, as quoted by Press Information Bureau, “that despite this global ranking and increase in total milk production in country, there is still an important point to ponder over. The milk productivity per animal is far less than the average in the developed dairy nations To increase the milk production per animal, there is a need to focus on implementing technologies.”
