The five day 16th Senior National Para Athletic Championship was organised at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula with participants from over 20 states. Athletes took an oath of participating in true spirit and also carried out a march at the onset of the event.
Chief Minister Manhoar Lal Khattar gave away medals to winners and announced rewards of 6 crore to Gold medal winners, 4 crore and 2.5 Crore to Silver and Bronze medal winners of the Olympics respectively. Such players would also be given facilities admissible to other players who win laurels in International competitions. The announcement by Chief Minister was hailed with a thunderous applause by all the participants.
Rao Inderjit, Union Minister of State for Defence appreciated the Paralympics Committee of Haryana for organising the event and urged the players to give their best.
The best performers amongst these sportsmen will represent India at the Paralympic Games in Rio, Brazil to be held from 7-18th September.
The good news is that the championship offers valuable opportunities to the participants for expressing themselves in wide variety of competitions which enables them to display their sporting skills and also symbolise their inclusion and acceptance into society.
