The entire 29.7km Noida Metro Corridor will run on solar power in little more than a year from now. It will be country’s greenest corridor where solar power will be used to run not only all the 21 stations but also its offices, train depots, parking lots and even foot bridges.
Noida Metro will emerge as the most environment friendly Metro project. Noida Metro will be producing 12 Mega Watts of Solar Power Every day. It will be installing solar panels on the roof tops of every station, bridges, its main office building, the depot and parking lot boundary walls.
“We will also apply for a diamond rating for our buildings by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). Metro’s total power consumption can be reduced further with better engineering practices, sleek design, recycle and reuse. Each of the stations will be powered by its own green energy. Rooftops of stations will have solar panels and the buildings will be fitted with LED bulbs. The two sub-stations that will supply power for trains running on the corridor will also support solar panels” Santosh Yadav, the managing director of Noida Metro told Economic Times.
India is surely on its way to becoming one of the fastest growing solar markets in the world. According to Mercom Capital Group, a total of 8.1 Giga Watts of photovoltaic capacity has been installed in the country by August 2016 and 21 additional Giga Watts is already in the pipeline. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi declaring energy to be the top priority after his election in 2014, the solar market in India is all set to make a bigger positive impact.
