Indian Railways has undertaken a massive and innovative exercise across all the 17 zones of the country to become more efficient, increase the revenues and reduce operational costs. In this 2 month long exercise each of Indian Railways’ 13 lac plus employees is expected to give at least one new idea to better the working of Indian Railways. This inclusive campaign aims to engage every employee from gang man to a general manager to give their point of view if he / she was the rail minister of the India.
1.1 Lac new and innovative ideas have been already received by the Rail Bhawan until 1st November 2016. A panel of seven joint secretaries have been given the task of short listing the best ideas and 1400 of them have already been cited. Patenting of the ideas has also started internally to avoid duplication.
15 best ideas will be picked and will be presented in the form of a business plan during a railway offsite in Surajkund Haryana from 18th to 20th November where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be present. According to ET Magazine, Prime Minister may roll out a massive campaign in the form of a 5 years vision for the Indian Railways as big as Make in India or Digital India.
Human Resource is any country’s biggest asset. It’s high time we realise as a nation that our large population can also positively contribute to indigenous development. This one of its kind exercise of crowd sourcing ideas and implementing the best ones will certainly inspire others. Indian Railways is all set to get a fresh impetus, charged with so many minds getting an opportunity to contribute.
